The programmes offer KI’s doctoral students a range of courses and other learning activities in most research fields and thus contribute significantly to the excellent quality of the doctoral education at KI. Biostatistics provides methods for designing a survey to estimate this quantity, for estimating the average expenditure in the population from the sample data and for determining how far our estimate is likely to be from the true unknown value. In humble terms, biostatistics is the search for truth (or at least true characteristics of populations).

The Biostatistics Core was charted in 2012 thanks to the support by Karolinska Institutet and the Region Stockholm (county council).

Dr Kung-Lee Liang, a pioneer in the field of biostatistics, gave a webinar via zoom with more than 100 attendees, including the President of KI, Ole Petter Ottersen. Dr. Liang spoke about how biostatistics contributed to medical science in the 20th century, and how we can rise to meet the current and future challenges in public health.
